Being a founding member of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which is now the African Union (AU), and a leading proponent of pan-Africanism, his influence went beyond Ghana's boundaries.

Impact and Legacy
The renowned proverb of Dr. Nkrumah, "the black man is capable of managing his own affairs," served as inspiration for African attempts at self-governance.
