Government Announces Plans To Reintroduce Road And Bridge Tolls

As part of the 2024 manifesto promises of the incumbent government, NDC's one key promise to the people of Ghana was to reintroduce the road and bridge toll when they win the general elections.

The government, through the Ministry of Roads and Highways, has today, 6th of February 2025, through a press release, announced plans to reintroduce the road and bridge tolls.

This reintroduction, the government believes, will help generate enough revenue for road maintenance and all its related matters.

According to the ministry, they are putting measures in place to modernize the collection system with a technologically driven approach.

To achieve this objective, the ministry will employ an open, transparent, competitive, cost-effective, and fair procurement process,” part of the release reads.

The ministry further assured the public of its commitment to modernizing the tolling system, which will address all the challenges the country is facing in its road maintenance.
